Classic Auto 2nd Annual Charity Chili Cook-Off

In Lifestyle by Reporter News

On Saturday, October 12th, Classic Auto Group Galveston will sponsor its 2nd annual Charity Chili Cook-Off. Set for 3-8pm, this fun, family event will take place (rain or shine) under the big tent on the grounds of our dealership – 8020 Broadway in Galveston. Besides the opportunity to sample great award-winning chili, other popular festival foods will be available. There will be live music provided by one of Galveston’s most popular bands – The Line Up (from 3-6pm) and a live Zumba* will take place between 6-8pm. A variety of fun children’s activities – including a “Kid Fish” catfish pond (sponsored by Chevrolet), face painting, and a pumpkin patch – will round out the day’s festivities. All proceeds will benefit two important non-profit organizations: The Children’s Center, Inc. in Galveston and Mercy Ministries International Zambia. Together with our staff, we created this fundraiser as “our way to give back to those in need.” The Children’s Center, Inc. ( TCCI), located on the Island, was formed through the merger of four child welfare agencies that have served the Galveston County area since 1878. Currently the organization offers ten distinct programs that provide assistance to at-risk, high-risk, and special needs children and their families through prevention and early intervention, emergency shelter, and residential care and services. In addition to TCCI, we’re donating proceeds to Mercy Ministries International Zambia. My wife, daughter and son-in-law have worked first hand in a village in Zambia delivering care packages to the critically ill, providing supplies to a school that educates children orphaned by HIV/AIDS epidemics, and providing mattresses to the elderly who have never slept on anything but the ground.

This fun and friendly cook-off competition will showcase up to 25 teams vying for first place trophies in three categories: Best in Class, Best Booth, and Crowd Favorite Booth. Teams participating last year included Harborside Collision Center, Awesome Auto, Ally, Detail Specialists, Classic Ford Service, Lions Club, Regions Bank, GM Financial, General Motors, Pit Stop Cookers, Classic Sugarland, and Classic Internet Department. New entries for 2013 include the Galveston Island Humane Society’s “Chili Dogs” team and Bark in the Park’s team – “Dog Gone Chili.” , Ally, GM Financial, Regional Bank, Mike Teel, Galveston Humane Society, Bark in the Park, Detail Specialists, Harborside Collision, Classic Sugar Land, Classic Galveston Internet team, Classic Ford Service, Ball High Student Council, The Children’s Center, The Spot, ADI, CBS Radio, Food Bank, and Coast Credit Union.

Admission is a $2 donation. Beer, wine, soft drinks and bottled water will also be available for a “good will” donation. We hope you’ll come out on the 12th. Sample some award-winning chili, listen to great music, enjoy a fun afternoon and evening with your family and friends and know that your donation is going to help two really important charities.
