Deadline for registering to vote in the November bond election is Oct. 7. All voters should have a colored registration card and must present a photo ID at the polling location.
Postcard voter registration applications are available in the City Secretary’s Office at City Hall, the Friendswood Library or online. Visit www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/voter/reqvr.shtml.
The announcement follows a decision by the U.S. Supreme Court that cleared the way for photo ID requirements in Texas, originally passed by the Texas Legislature in 2011, to take effect. Acceptable forms of ID include a driver’s license, Texas Election Identification Certificate, Texas personal identification card, Texas concealed handgun license, all issued by DPS. Other acceptable forms of ID are U.S. military identification, U.S. citizenship certificate with photo or a U.S. passport.
With the exception of the citizenship certificate, identification must be current or have expired no more than 60 days before being presented at the polling place. Election identification certificates are now available at no fee only for voters who do not already have a required form of photo identification.
