Clara Belle Hogle Mitchell, 89, our beloved mother who was the heart of our family, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Sunday, September 15, 2013.
She was born on October 18, 1923 in Medford, MN to Glen Maitland Hogle and Josephine Barker Hogle. Clara graduated from Mora High School and then went to Minneapolis to graduate with honors from Business School. She was then hired by Northwest Orient Airlines in their corporate office.
Clara married the love of her life Meholis in 1945 and raised their 5 children. She was a homemaker that excelled at hospitality. She was an excellent cook and a popular hostess. Her kitchen never closed and everyone was welcome and well fed. Clara returned to work and was hired at the VA Hospital in Houston and retired in 1983 after 20 years. She then devoted herself to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Our mother had a full and happy life. She volunteered making infant and chemo patient hats thru her membership at Natty Knitters. She also belonged to United Methodist Women, The United Methodist Church, and the YMCA. Clara loved her vacation home on Tiki Island, often swimming in the salt water and traveling with her family. We are so grateful for her loving kindness and fairness to all. We will mourn her loss all of our lives.
May our Lord lift up her gentle soul to meet her beloved husband, parents, sister and her daughter, Judith. May she be comforted in their embrace. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Meholis, her parents Glen Maitland Hogle and Josephine Barker Hogle, her sister, Helen Hogle Soderstrom and her youngest daughter, Judith Mitchell Clay. Clara is survived by her daughter, Patricia Mitchell Briones and family; son, John Mitchell and family; daughter, Flora Mitchell; son, Louis Mitchell and family; son-in-law, Dennis Clay and family; the family of her sister Helen Hogle Soderstrom; brother John Hogle and family; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 1 great great-grandchild and many lifelong friends.
