Friends of Friendswood support bonds

In Letter to the Editor by Reporter News

To the Good Citizens of Friendswood

The Friends of Friendswood is a group of concerned citizens that have been meeting since February to address the future needs of our great city. Based on their assessment, a proposal to have a citizen vote on issuing approximately $24M in bonds was presented and approved by city council in July. We would like your support for the four propositions on the November 5th election.

The Friends of Friendswood developed the following four propositions after much deliberation and assistance from the city staff:

  • Proposition 1 – Construct a new Fire Station adjacent to the Public Safety Building and expand Fire Station #4 located near Woodlawn and FM 2351
  • Proposition 2 – Expand and remodel the existing Library
  • Proposition 3 – Park improvements including expansion of existing parks, improvements to existing parks and acquisition of land for new parks
  • Proposition 4 – Improve streets

The Friends of Friendswood used the information available from the city such as Vision 2020, Master Plans, Capital Expenditures and any other public information. We created 4 separate sub-teams, Facilities, Streets, Parks and Finance. Then each team independently provided their recommendations to the Friends of Friendswood for the final product represented by the above four propositions.

To get additional information, I would like to invite you to the Friends of Friendswood Kick-Off Town Hall Meeting on October 3rd at 6:30 pm in the Hometown Bank located on FM 528.

The Friends of Friendswood believe the new fire station, library expansion, additional parks and street improvements are necessary for the future of Friendswood. Please join us in supporting the four propositions on November 5th.
