Friendswood crushes Ball High 51-6

Friendswood closed out the regular season with a 51-6 pounding of Ball High and now the Mustangs will move on to the post-season when they face Angleton at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, November 15 at Angleton in the Class 4A Region III Division I bi-district contest. The Mustangs enter the playoffs as the No. 1 seed from District 24-4A.

There was little doubt in the game against Tornadoes as the Mustangs scored 31 unanswered points in the second quarter and then added 20 more in the third period for a comfortable 51-0 lead.

Ball High scored their only touchdown with 1:25 left in the game when Kevin Batiste grabbed a 13-yard scoring pass from QB Jacob Simon to post the 51-6 final score.

Neither team scored in the opening quarter, but the Mustangs were driving when the period came to an end. On the first play of the second quarter, Garon Stewart booted a 38-yard field goal after the drive stalled at the Ball High 21.

Friendswood scored again less than three minutes later when Slade Holle snared a 3-yard scoring toss from QB Brandon Sargent to make the score 10-0.

The Mustangs defense forced a punt and Holle struck again this time with a 56-yard punt return for a touchdown to increase the lead to 17-0.

Things continued to crumble for the Tors a minute later as Christian Robinson scooped up a fumble and raced 57-yards for another Friendswood touchdown. The PAT was good by Stewart for a 24-0 advantage.

With less than a minute left in the first half, Friendswood added one more score when Sargent hit Tylan Shelby for a 6-yard scoring strike to make the score 31-0 at intermission.

Friendswood continued their scoring barrage in the third quarter as Tyler Page scored on an 8-yard run to increase the lead to 38-0.

Colin Faulk was next to get into the end zone when he caught an 18-yard pass from Sargent and a 45-0 lead.

With 31 seconds left in the third, Jonah Vandersypen scored on a 5-yard run. The PAT missed the mark leaving the score at 51-0.

Friendswood head coach Robert Koopmann substituted freely to allow the players to all share in the winning effort.

The Mustangs finished with 355 total yards while the Friendswood defense held the Tors to only 112 total yards including -minus 8 rushing.

Sargent was 6-of-14 passing for 61 yards and three touchdowns.

Sam Longbotham had 17 carries for 129 yards to lead the ground attack. Holle had two carries for 54 yards. Page had nine totes for 59 yards and one score. Vandersypen had six carries for 45 yards and one TD.

Faulk was the leading receiver for Friendswood with two catches for 24 yards and one score.

The Mustangs will travel to Angleton to face the Wildcats in the bi-district round of the Class 4A Region III Div. I playoffs on Friday, November 15 at 7:30 p.m.
