The halls are alive with the sound of music at Carleston Elementary thanks to a Texas Music Educators Association grant.
Carleston recently received a $760 TMEA grant to expand music education for its nearly 800 students.
The grant purchased egg shakers, sleigh bells, melodicas, an autoharp and more. “These high-quality instruments will enhance the learning experience for students who are being introduced to music education for the first time,” Brian Berlin, Carleston music teacher, said.
TMEA has recently awarded nearly $500,000 in grants to 600 elementary music programs statewide for new instruments, music, technology and other supplies.
TMEA is a professional association for more than 15,000 music educators from kindergarten through college. It offers professional development to educators, sustains public support for music in schools and encourages quality musical experiences for all students.
