Kids Escape Grand Theft Auto

Two children who were inside their grandfather’s car when it was stolen from a local gas station. The children are safe and unharmed, Friendswood officials announced.

According to reports, the white Buick was stolen from a gas station, near the intersection of FM 528 and Bay Area Boulevard, just after 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

A 14-year-old who had been inside jumped from the car when he realized it was being stolen, running after it and screaming to draw attention to his 3-year-old sibling still inside, reports said. The suspect reportedly stopped the car and released the toddler in the nearby Wendy’s parking lot before escaping in the car.

While leaving the parking lot, a witness rammed the car, but the driver continued toward I-45, police said.

Police later located both car and driver on E. NASA Parkway.

Held in connection with the incident is Thomas Miller McKellen, 39.
