The Laura Recovery Center invites Friendswood residents who are college bound to apply for the Laura Smither Scholarship by the March 31st deadline.
This is a merit based scholarship open to all the children of Friendswood, regardless of where they attended school; public, private or home. Applicants must be graduating from high school and been a resident of Friendswood throughout their high school career.
Applicants should submit a completed application form, addressed to the Scholarship Committee, by March 31. The form should detail the applicant’s community and volunteer activities. In addition, the applicant will prepare a 200 to 500 word essay outlining the student’s dreams and aspirations as they relate to a college education, career, and future plans.
Application forms and more details can be found online at www.LRCF.org and at the government high schools in Friendswood. The Scholarship is in the amount of $3,000 and has been awarded to a deserving Friendswood scholar every year since 1998. To date sixteen worthy recipients have received the Laura Smither Scholarship and have attended colleges around the country.
The Scholarship was created in memory of Laura Kate Smither and honors her passion of life and learning.
