Vergie Lee Chandler Archer, 98, of Friendswood, TX passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2014 in Friendswood, TX.

She was born November 3, 1915 to Hollie Jesse Chandler and Vannie Venezuela Jackson Chandler in Limestone County, TX to a close family of four siblings.

Vergie and Carl Travis Archer were married April 12, 1936 while seated in Travis’ Ford Model A Coupe. They lived in Pasadena, TX where Travis built Liberty ships for the World War II war effort. Vergie retired from the Pasadena Independent School District. When Travis retired from Shell Oil Refinery they moved to Mexia, TX where they enjoyed gardening and church activities. In 2004, Vergie and Travis moved to Friendswood, TX to be near their children. Vergie and Travis were lifelong members of the Church of Christ. The legacy of their 75 year marriage will continue for future generations.

She is survived by her children, Gerald Travis Archer and wife Marie of Friendswood, TX and Janie Crim and husband Steve of Friendswood, TX; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; sister, Ercil Barnhart of Cushing, TX; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and cherished friends.

Friends are cordially invited to the visitation with the family on Monday, June 2, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. with the funeral service to follow at 12:00 P.M. at the Jeter Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 311 N. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546 (281) 992-7200 with Mike Ross officiating. Burial will follow at the Grandview Cemetery, 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, TX.
