Friendswood received the groundwork for a new 9-hole disc golf course which will open soon, thanks to an Eagle Scout work day Saturday.
Project leader Cooper Dixon led the work day at 1776 Park, clearing and removing debris from future fairways and trails. The project was coordinated through the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, and volunteers brought shovels, hoes, clippers and rakes to help.
Also known as “Frolf” or Frisbee golf, disc golf courses are increasingly popular in many areas of the U.S. and especially with teens and young adults. The Professional Disc Golf Association has seen both player membership and the number of courses nearly double since 2007.
The game is played much like traditional golf, with discs instead of clubs and balls.
