Pearland East faced a very talented Illinois team from Chicago (3-1) as the boys of summer from Pearland fell 6-1. The loss eliminates Pearland from the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA.

Illinois scored three runs in the bottom of the first for a 3-0 lead. Pearland cut the lead to 3-1 in the top of the third with Brandon Sliwinski scored.

But that would be all the scoring for Pearland as Illinois scored three more runs in the bottom of the fourth making the score 6-1.

However, Illinois had scoring threats in every inning as Pearland’s pitching and defense limited the scoring in what could have been a blowout. Pearland shut down Illinois once with the bases loaded to deny them of any more runs.

On the other side, Illinois’ defense was spectacular turning two double plays while limiting Pearland to only four hits.

Pearland’s Walter Maeker III did a good job on the mound, but Pearland just couldn’t come up with some key defensive plays. Bryce Laird stepped in on the hill in relief and had a good outing.

All-in-all, it was a great run for Pearland making it to the World Series for the second time. They were there for the first time in 2010.
