This past summer, Alvin ISD was selected as one of five Houston area districts to receive school supplies from the 2014 Stuff the School Bus campaign, presented by Cox Media Group Houston and Kroger. Stuff the School Bus is a 3-week long school supply drive. During the drive Kroger stores in the Houston area sell school supply kits for $7 each, and collect donations from patrons in support of students. Representatives from each of the five school districts recently attended a check presentation in Houston. At the time of the presentation, the value of the school supplies donated was revealed, and Alvin ISD received $35,155.80 worth of supplies. The supplies were delivered in August, and were distributed to each of the campuses throughout the District.
“We would like to extend a huge thank you to the generous members of our community, for ensuring that our students started the new school year supplied for success,” said Dale Tribble, Walt Disney Elementary principal.
Each year, Alvin ISD has thousands of families who need assistance purchasing supplies for school. “We are overwhelmed at the kindness,” said principal Tracy Olvera. “The supplies will be used to support students in need along with after-school programs. We are very thankful!”
Daniel Combs, Director of Communications stated, “We are overwhelmed with the generosity of the Kroger Company, as well as the greater Houston community for supporting so many students. This incredible partnership will provide students throughout Alvin ISD with the tools they need to achieve academic success.”
