P&Z to Look at Home Businesses

In News by Reporter News

Changes to the city’s ordinances on home-based businesses is among agenda items for the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission.

City Council recently referred the item to the commission after considering relaxing rules governing home-based businesses. Changes discussed during the council meeting included allowing a limited quantity of stock to be kept in the home, and allowing visits to the home for retail purposes, provided that visits do not change the character of the residential area.

The proposed amendments came after recent federal inquiries into the city’s small, home-based businesses that sell and repair firearms.

Regarding home-based businesses, current ordinances specifically prohibit retail, those employing others outside the home, and stock and trade kept or sold except those made or used on the premises.

P&Z meetings are held in Council Chambers at City Hall, 910 S. Friendswood Dr., and are open to the public.

Also on the agenda is a site plan for Friendswood Professional Building B on W. Edgewood.
