Richard Tetens of Pearland, Texas was called to heaven on September 15, 2014.

He was born in Brady, Texas on July 28, 1934 and graduated from Brady High School in 1952. Richard attended Texas Tech University then worked for the Santa Fe Railroad before joining the army and serving in Korea in 1958. He later completed his degree in civil engineering from Texas Tech University. He met Anna Marie Montoya in Las Vegas, New Mexico while working for the railroad. They married in 1961 and initially lived in Denver, Colorado.

In 1964 the Tetens moved to the Houston area and Richard joined a friend’s family business, OMSCO, an oil field machinery company. He worked as Vice President for OMSCO until his retirement in 1997.

In 1967 Richard and Anna built a house in Pearland, Texas and there raised three daughters. Richard quickly became involved in the city. He served on the planning and zoning board for 14 years, was a City Council member for 16 years, acted as Mayor pro-tem, sat on the Clear Creek citizens advisory council, sat on the Pearland Charter review board, was the president of the Brazoria County Cities Association, and was the alternate representative for the Houston/Galveston area council.

As an active member of the First Presbyterian church of Pearland for 45 years, he was an ordained elder on the session, chair of the property committee, and was active in the men of the church.

Most importantly, he was a great dad and Pa Pa to his three daughters and five grandchildren. He had nicknames for everyone (including friends) and never forgot them. Our daddy was an adventure seeker that was able to fulfill some lifelong dreams including hunting in Canada, dove hunting in Argentina, and driving to Alaska. But, his “heaven on earth” include his ranch in South Texas, and a family ranch in New Mexico.

Richard was proceeded in death by his parents Ernst and Cora Tetens, brother Harry Tetens, and his daughter Anita Tetens. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Anna Tetens, daughters Diane Malloy (deedle D) and Janet Romberg (JR); son-in-laws Doug Malloy (Doogie) and Matt Romberg (Matty); grandchildren Carson Malloy (CT), Alexis Malloy (Lexi-exi), Zachary Romberg (ZacharEE), Wyatt Romberg (Wyatt Earp), and Sawyer Romberg (Tom Sawyer); brother Tom Tetens; sister Laura Clement; sister-in-law Rita Tetens; brother-in-law Joe Clement; mother-in-law Marie Montoya; sister-in-law Priscilla Akers, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be held Friday, September 26th, from 6:00pm until 8:00pm, and the service celebrating Richard’s life will be held Saturday, September 27th, at 1:00pm, all held at the First Presbyterian Church of Pearland.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to First Presbyterian Church of Pearland or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
