Dominga “Peanut” Vegas, 73, passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2014. She went to join many of her loving family members. She died in McKinney, TX from side effects of dementia. She was born on September 2, 1941 to Lucas Vegas and Dominga Juarez Vegas in Goose Creek, TX.
Dominga was known as “Peanut” for the rest of her life, after being given the nickmane by her Aunt Sophia Juarez Garica.
She graduated from Baytown Robert E. Lee High School in 1960, Sacred Heart Dominican College, and St. Joseph School of Nursing. She worked for more than 30 years for the VA Hospital in Puerto Rico, Chicago, and the last years of her career at the Audie Murphy VA Hospital in San Antonio.
Peanut loved to dance and loved music of all kinds. She enjoyed being in her high school band, and later being a part of the Plano City Band with her former high school band director.
Dominga was preceded in death by her parents Lucas and Dominga Vegas; her husband, Fred Lopez; her sister-in-law, Ruth Reed Vegas.
She is survived by her daughter, Audrey Mercado of McKinney, TX; brothers, Lucas and wife Pat Vegas and James and wife Nelda Vegas; nephews, Luke and wife Angie Vegas, Jaime and wife Brooke Vegas, and James and wife Mary Vegas; nieces, Lucinda and husband Joe Bright, Yolanda and husband Tony Estrada, and Joanna Vegas; grand-nephews, Jacob, Joshua, Lane and Sullivan Vegas, and Noah Bright; grand-nieces, Liz, Sarah, Katie Ruth, and McKenzie Nell Bright, Caitlin and Landri Estrada; and many other family members from Baytown, TX mourn the loss of Peanut; and a host of cherished friends.
Friends are cordially invited to the visitation with the family on Friday, October 3, 2014 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with the Rosary beginning at 7:00 P.M. at the Jeter Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 311 N. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546 (281) 992-7200.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at the Jeter Memorial Funeral Home with Deacon George Rincon officiating. Interment will follow at the Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster, TX.
