Are you fulfilling your civic duty and voting? Whether a Constitutional, primary, general or local election, voting is both a right and a duty and, with the November mid-term election right around the corner, you have until October 6th to either register or update your address information with the Voter Registration Department of the Galveston County Tax Office (GCTO).
If you have moved within Galveston County, you may update your address on the Texas Secretary of State’s website (www.VoteTexas.gov) or download an application from the GCTO website (www.galcotax.com and click on the Voter Registration Information button). You may also update your name or address by making corrections on the back of your current voter registration certificate.
Applications and changes may be mailed (postage paid) or dropped in a GCTO drop box located outside of all full time branch locations. USPS postmarks determine the registration or change date. When mailing, the postmark determines registration date. Items dropped in a GCTO drop box are picked up at the beginning of each workday and stamped with the previous day’s date.
Replacement voter certificates may be obtained by submitting a request to GCTO via fax (409-766-2479) or email ([email protected]) thanks to legislation that passed in the last Texas Legislative Session. Include your full name and date of birth and a replacement will be mailed to the address on file (to prevent fraud).
If you have questions regarding your registration, call the Voter Registration Department at 1-888-976-2280 (toll free). Early voting begins October 20th and runs through October 31st. Remember that a photo ID is required for voting in person. Voting locations are posted online at www.galvestonvotes.org.
