Classic Auto Group to Host Chili Cookoff

On Saturday October 18th Classic Auto Group Galveston will hold its 3rd Annual Charity Chili Cookoff from 3pm until 7pm under the huge tent on the dealership grounds on Broadway. This fun event has grown to be a huge family draw for people on the Island as well as from the mainland. Over 475 people attended last year’s festival and Howie Bentley, owner of Classic Auto Group Galveston expects even larger attendance this year. Besides award winning chili and an abundance of other festival foods and drinks, there will be live music provided by the popular Galveston group, The Line Up and a live Zumba® Party led by Renae Bentley. Renae and her fellow instructors will also introduce Fierce Funk dance fitness and everyone is encouraged to participate.

All proceeds will benefit three non-profit organizations including Mercy Ministries International in Zambia, a faith based non-profit organization that seeks to reach the lost through the gospel of Jesus Christ and serves the needy through care and support; Communities in Schools of Galveston, which brings caring adults into schools to address children’s unmet needs and empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. The popular Lemonade Day of Galveston will also benefit from the donations raised. Lemonade Day Galveston is a free program that teaches youth how to start, own and operate their own business, a lemonade stand.

“Last year, we raised over $22,000 for local charities,” explained Howie Bentley. “We expect to exceed that amount this year. The event has really taken on a life of its own and has truly become a destination for folks from all over the area.” With well over two dozen entries, chili cook-off winners will include Crowd Favorite, Best Booth, and Best Chili. “We try to support our Galveston community every day but we could not put on something this big without the support of our sponsors,” said Howie Bentley. Sponsors for the 2014 Chili Cookoff include title sponsor Caliber Collision; RouteOne, GM Financial, Moody Bank, AutoTrader, Ally, Amoco A&H Electric and Deist Distributing.
