Red Carpet Gala Raises Money for Literacy

The day started early for the planning committee, on October 11th. The expectations were high for the 2nd Annual Red Carpet Gala. With 29 sponsors supporting the event and more than 200 guests coming, the ballroom at the Hilton Garden Inn had to look flawless in order to represent the Adult Reading Center well.

The sold-out event raised close to $35,000 for Adult Literacy, GED and Citizenship programs and had attendees from the Pearland and Houston metropolitan area. Blackjack, roulette, craps and slot machines engaged the guests in a night full of fun. A DJ set the mood with songs from today and from the past, keeping ladies and gentlemen on the dance floor all night. A silent auction with sports and celebrity memorabilia was a source of fundraising at the Gala and allowed guests to leave with unique items. Lucky guests left at the end of night with raffle prizes such as a week’s vacation in Galveston, beauty baskets, family and relaxation packages.

The focus of the night was having a fun event, where people could engage in light networking, build memories in our community and, at the same, support the Center’s literacy cause.

The planning of the 2nd Annual Red Carpet Gala began in May, with the formation of a solid Committee. Mrs. Dale Pillow, President and CEO of the Adult Reading Center, takes pride in the job done by the volunteers and staff involved in the results of the Gala: “We know how much work it takes to put a successful event together. All the challenges, the small victories, each sponsorship that comes in the mail. It all contributes to a wonderful night, where members of our community come together for the purpose of supporting the literacy cause.”

“Having engaged people who give their best for our adult learners makes the journey much more rewarding,” emphasizes Mrs. Pillow.
