While Friendswood families prepare to trick or treat, those behind the scenes of the city’s holiday festivals are busy putting final preparations on this year’s events.
Artists and crafters are registering for the two-day November Christmas Arts Market, hosted by Art Dwellers on Nov. 23. The free juried art competition includes live entertainment, demonstrations, art competition for ages 15 and up and a children’s “make and take” area.
Held at Stevenson Park, event proceeds benefit the Friendswood ISD Children’s Foundation, Friendswood Public Library, Bay Area Turning Point and purchase of a solar light in Stevenson Park. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 22 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 23. More information is available at www.artdwellers.com.
Looking ahead to December, booth sales are under way for the city’s annual holiday festival, featuring a snow hill, rides, entertainment – and a fireworks show.
The city and Keep Friendswood Beautiful began commercial and non-profit booth sales last week for the 7th annual Santa in the Park Holiday Market, set Saturday, Dec. 13, from 3 to 8 p.m.
The Chamber of Commerce lighted parade is scheduled from 6 to 7 p.m. In addition to games, rides, vendors and a lighting ceremony for the city’s 20-foot Christmas tree, a fireworks show is set to be presented by the event’s title sponsor HomeTown Bank.
Booths range from $30 for local non-profits to $85 for nonlocal commercial retail.
This event also takes place at Stevenson Park, where 40,000 pounds of snow will create a winter wonderland for youngsters.
In addition, Friendswood Police Department will be collecting new, unwrapped toys for its Blue Santa program.
