FISD Enters 6th Year of Adopt-a-Grant

In Lifestyle, News by Reporter News

Returning for its sixth year in Friendswood ISD, the Adopt A Grant program is now open and available for purchase by individuals, businesses and community partners.’

The grants are written by Friendswood ISD teachers, principals and staff and the requests are for items and programs not able to put on the campus and district budget lists.

The grants are part of the annual giving to faculty and staff by the Friendswood ISD Education Foundation. Five years ago they opened the adoption process to the community and it has grown tremendously over the span of two years. Last year the Education Foundation surPRIZE Patrol delivered more than $160,000 in grants to FISD personnel. Of that amount, $81,000 had been “adopted” by the community.

This year, families, students, businesses and others can adopt a grant now, and have a holiday card sent to the grant writer(s) with the adopters on it.

“What a wonderful Christmas gift to get, instead of an initial mug of hot chocolate mix, a candle or perfume, to get what you have wanted to use in your classroom impacting your students,” FEF Director and Chair for the Adopt a Grant program Paige Ridout said. “We are excited to have so many grants out there. We hope people will look up their children’s campus, their child’s teacher and adopt a grant.”

After December, Adopt a Grant will offer Valentines for delivery Feb. 14. The Adopt a Grant program will also be in full swing at the Foundation’s annual fundraiser Red Hot Gala at The Houstonian Feb. 14, 2015.
