United Way offers free tax preparation in coming months

In collaboration with various assistance sites throughout Brazoria County, United Way of Brazoria County is offering free income tax preparation and filing in January and February 2015.

The 2015 Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program will offer free tax help to people who made $53,000 or less in combined income in 2014. IRS-certified volunteers will provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals. Through Feb. 14, fully certified volunteers will also be available at these sites to answer any questions and assist clients with sign up for coverage through the Affordable Care Act.

Sites providing assistance include:
– EITC Training, Jan. 10 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Alvin Family Community Center, 1031 W. Sealy, Alvin.
– Super Saturday – Jan. 31 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. (employees have top priority) at Dish Network, 512 S. Gordon Street in Alvin.
– Super Saturday – Feb. 7 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Alvin Family Community Center, 1031 W. Sealy, Alvin.
– Pearland Neighborhood Center – Feb. 12 from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Pearland Neighborhood Center, 2335 N. Texas Ave. in Pearland.
