In honor of School Board Recognition Month, this January Alvin ISD along with districts across Texas, are celebrating the contributions and dedication of school board members.

“This is an opportunity for us to thank our local leaders for their dedication and willingness to serve as advocates for our children and public schools,” said Daniel Combs, director of communications.

Community members benefit each day from the tireless work and time contributed by the men and women who serve as school board members. These local volunteers are elected by their constituents, and generously give of themselves freely to ensure that decisions directly impacting Alvin ISD are made by members of this community.

“Although we are making a special effort during the month of January to recognize our board members, and show how truly appreciative we are of the work that they do, we realize their many contributions reflect a year-round commitment,” added Combs.

The seven-member board plays a vital role in ensuring educational success for all of the students they serve.
The board members serving Alvin ISD are Cheryl Harris – President, Nicole Tonini – Vice President, Regan Metoyer – Secretary, and members Tiffany Wennerstrom, Mike Lansford, Earl Humbird and Vivian Scheibel.

“We are thankful to have such a dedicated group of citizens provide vision and leadership in their roles as advocates for the students of Alvin ISD. They serve as a link between parents, community members and the District, as they are responsible for ensuring that the more than 20,900 students and 2,700 educators that make up Alvin ISD are put first in the decision making processes, and overseeing an annual budget of $178,253,343,” said Dr. Buck Gilcrease, superintendent of schools. “We appreciate the countless hours that our school board members commit, as their actions and decisions directly impact the present and future lives of the children in the communities that we serve.”
