The City of Pearland celebrated the completion of the Pearland Medical Center, its first ever hospital at a ribbon cutting ceremony on January 9.
The Pearland Medical Center is an affiliate of the Hospital Corporation of America and is slated to open on Jan. 21. The 71 million dollar, 33 bed, 144,000 square foot facility offers high quality healthcare services including a full range of acute care inpatient surgery, medical/surgical/intensive care beds, a 24 hour emergency department, labor and delivery and postpartum recovery suites, cesarean-section units, a Level II neonatal intensive care unit and a general nursery.
In attendance was PMC Board of Trustees Chairman Kevin Fuller, Manvel Mayor, Delores Martin, HCA Gulf Coast President, Maura Walsh, CEO Matt Dixon, Reverend Brian Gigee and Pearland Mayor Tom Reid, Commissioners Stacy Adams and David Linder, Pearland City Manager Clay Pearson and Asst. City Manager Trent Epperson, Councilmen Gary Moore and Tony Carbone, Amy Hill representing State Rep. Ed Thompson, Pearland Chamber Staff and Ambassadors.
“This is a special event for the City of Pearland, ” said Mayor Tom Reid. “This facility demonstrates what a quality city should be.”
The hospital employs approximately 250 full time employees including 150 physicians. Matt Dixon, Pearland Medical Center CEO, said they received 1200 employment applications and carefully choose applicants who best represented the mission of the center which is to care for and improve human life. As the hospital grows, more physicians and medical staff are projected to come to Pearland and settle around the hospital, he said.

The hospital is the first of two planned hospitals for Pearland. The second 64 bed Memorial Hermann hospital is expected to open December 2015.
