A 5K run, walk and kid’s K this weekend promises to be a fun event that raises funds and awareness for a very serious topic.

Friendswood High HOSA is presenting the run for its community awareness project, “Preventing Social Media Suicidality,” with proceeds to benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

The race takes place this Saturday, Jan. 17, from 8 a.m. to noon at Centennial Park, 2200 S. Friendswood Dr. The 5K is $20 and Kids K is $15.

The HOSA Community Awareness group from Friendswood High includes Molly Chen, Faatima Ovais, Erin Janak and Huson Nounu. The group is still looking for business sponsors to help fund this project. Funds go toward T-shirts, raffle baskets, vendor booths, entertainment, food, runners’ bracelets and a future memorial garden. Remaining proceeds will be donated to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

For information on sponsorships, email [email protected] or call Molly Chen at 281-993-2394.
