Friendswood High School Musical is teaming up with ZFX to bring flying effects to the 47th annual musical production of “Mary Poppins.”
ZFX, Inc, who provides performer flying services that cover the full spectrum from Broadway to neighborhood high schools, will be bringing flying effects and lots of experience along when they partner up with the cast and crew at Friendswood High School.
“Mary Poppins” is a Walt Disney Theatrical musical based on the similarly titled series of children’s books by P. L. Travers and the 1964 Disney film.
As Mary Poppins prepares to fly into Friendswood, Jan. 30, 31, Feb. 6 and 7 at 7 p.m. and February 8 at 2:30 p.m., the cast and crew have been working hard to make sure that they “Step in Time.” Tickets are $10 at the door.
The cast is lead by Senior Audrey McKee as Mary Poppins, the quintessential English nanny. Mary Poppins arrives at No. 17 Cherry Tree Lane to help bring order to the Banks family Household. She is loving and kind towards the children, but can be firm when needed. She is “practically perfect in every way.”
Seniors Jonathan Yawn and Jana Landers play George and Winifred Banks with Anne Balderrama and Travis Schlicht playing Jane and Michael Banks. Bert, the chimney sweep, that tours Mary Poppins and the children around London and jumps into the worlds of his chalk drawings is played by Junior Connor Krusleski.
The production of “Mary Poppins” is very technical with flight, robotic lighting, professional grade sets and special effects.
The student production team is lead by Junior Brian Cianciolo who has helped with every aspect of the production including production head over the student technical crew of 34.
Sarah Jacobson, is Stage Manager and Meghan Perry is Flight Captain, Chris Brewer is Lighting head with Meryl Sager heading the student costume crew that manages some 200 hundred costumes for the cast of 70.
The Pit Band includes 18 students that will accompany the cast of 7 in bringing the magical score of “Mary Poppins” to life.
Others in the cast include Summer Bockart, Owen O’Neill, Noelle Zoch, Bodie Lowe, Madeline Rhew, Caleb Petty, Kirsten Hill, Caroline Senter, Lucinda Culver, Gina Baker and Shelby Allison.
FHS and FISD will rededicate the newly named auditorium to the memory of FHS musical founder, Dr. Myrlene Kennedy.
“This is a perfect way to celebrate 75 years of Friendswood schools’ history,” Superintendent Trish Hanks said.
