A 56-year old Friendswood man was killed in an auto-pedestrian accident at approximately 12:04 a.m. on February 1 in the 2600 block of W. Parkwood (FM 528).

Jerry L. Schuchmann was walking home when the fatal accident occurred. He was walking westbound, with traffic, on the shoulder of W. Parkwood (FM 528) when a 16-year old Alvin teen struck him. Schuchmann’s wife is a teacher at Windsong Elementary School.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor on the part of the 16-year old driver; however, investigators are still gathering information to determine the cause of the accident.

The accident occurred directly in front of Friendswood Fire Station #2, when police officers arrived, two Friendswood firemen were already providing first aid to Schuchmann. Friendswood EMS continued life-saving measures and transported Schuchmann to Clear Lake Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 12:33 a.m.

Accident investigators will reconstruct the accident scene to help determine the cause of the accident and the existence of any contributing factors. Toxicology and laboratory results will also determine the presence of any alcohol.
