Pearland landed high on the list in a January 2015 ranking of “Best Small Cities for Families.”

According to rankings announced by California-based NerdWallet Inc., Pearland is No. 12. Nearby League City ranked at No. 25, and Sugar Land at No. 49.

Among the metrics used by NerdWallet were affordability, growth and family-friendliness. The site said its researchers analyzed 1,030 U.S. cities with populations of 25,000 to 100,000 to rank the “best small places in the country to raise your children.”

Some the best cities in the rankings, the site reported, are in Texas and Utah. Seven of the top 20 cities are in the Lone Star State near Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth or Austin, while four were in Utah near Salt Lake City.

Topping the nationwide list was Seattle suburb of Sammamish, Wa., followed by the Dallas area city of Wylie at No. 2 and Austin area cities of Leander, No. 3, and Kyle, No. 4.

In October of 2014, Pearland, along with Friendswood and Sugar Land, made the top 10 in NerdWallet’s “Best Places for Young Families in Texas” list. Deciding factors in that ranking included public schools, price of homes and economic growth.
