The Alvin ISD School Board Election will be held on May 9, 2015. The following positions are up for election: Position 1 currently held by Mike Lansford, Position 2, which is currently held by Regan Metoyer, and Position 3 held by Cheryl Harris. Filing to run for a position on the Alvin ISD School Board started on January 28, and will continue until February 27 from the hours of 7:45 a.m. until 4:45 p.m. Individuals interested in filing should do so by visiting the Alvin ISD Tommy King Central Administration Building, located at 301 E. House St. in Alvin.
The key roles and responsibilities of the School Board are to ensure creation of a vision and goals for the District, and evaluate district success. Members of the Board also adopt policies that guide district actions, oversee and evaluate the superintendent’s progress and success, approve annual budgets, and communicate the success of the District to the community.
Early voting in the School Board Election will begin on Monday, April 27, and continue until Tuesday, May 5 at locations throughout Brazoria County.
School district trustees are elected by popular vote, and serve three-year staggered terms so that the entire board is not up for election at the same time. School board members receive no compensation. To be eligible for election, a local school board candidate must be 1) a qualified and registered voter 2) a resident of the Alvin ISD for six months before the filing deadline, and 3) a resident of Texas for 12 months before the filing deadline.
