At the February 10 meeting of the Board, Alvin ISD Trustees designated Raymond Root as the principal of Manvel Junior High.
The new Manvel Junior High, which is located directly behind Manvel High School at 7302 McCoy Road, is currently under construction and set to open August 2015. The 2013 Bond that was approved by voters, allowed for the rebuilding of the original campus to allow for students to have a modern facility that is well equipped to suit the needs of 21st century learners. During the transition students and staff were moved to Rodeo Palms Junior High. With the transition of students and staff, came an opening for a principal for the new Manvel Junior High campus.
Root, who is currently the associate principal of Manvel High School, started his professional career in education with Alvin ISD in 2004 as a teacher and coach. He then moved into administration as the assistant principal of Manvel High School. He is a graduate of University of Texas at Austin, and obtained a master’s in educational leadership from Lamar University.
“Raymond has been an outstanding and dedicated leader at Manvel High School. It is our expectation that he will continue to have a tremendous impact on the students of Alvin ISD in the capacity of principal of Manvel Junior High,” said Dr. Buck Gilcrease, Alvin ISD superintendent of schools.
“I am honored to be selected as the newest principal of Manvel Junior High, and appreciate the trust that the Alvin ISD Board of Trustees, superintendent of schools, and administrators have placed in me,” said Root. “I believe that every student should be empowered to realize the opportunities that they have as 21st century learners, and look forward to working with a team of outstanding and committed educators as we engage, challenge, and prepare every student every day to be successful in and outside of the classroom.”
