A 60-acre proposed 55-and-up community entitled “Oasis at Pearland” drew discussion Monday night at a City Council work session.
The site is located west of the proposed extension of Pearland Parkway, north of Cowarts Creek and south of Town Lake Estates.
Triangle 31 Ltd. and R. West Development Co. Inc. are proposing the development and seeking a rezoning from light industrial and single family residential to PD, or planned development. The proposal examined Monday described a community with two and three-bedroom town homes and one- and two-bedroom apartments, along with a trail, dog park, 6,000-square-foot clubhouse, pool and theater. The living units would be both owned and rented.
In Pearland, the multifamily component is often a turn-off.
“These are pretty pictures, but these are still garden style apartments,” Councilman Scott Sherman said.
The developer has also proposed “nonresidential uses” along Pearland Parkway on approximately 6 acres. R. West Development’s past projects include Bella Vita, Villa Verde and Villages of Town Lakes.
For the Oasis at Pearland, the independent living units will adjoin planned assisted, skilled nursing and memory care facilities planned along 35. An 80-unit assisted living memory care facility is set to open in 2016.
After feedback from staff on its plan, a more detailed and clarified proposal for the development will be brought back before council in a future joint workshop between the council and Planning and Zoning.
