Council race draws challengers

Incumbent Steve Rockey has drawn two challengers in the May election for City Council Position No. 1.

Filing for candidacy ended last Friday, and Rockey will now face two challengers: Michael Wood and Philip Caltabiano.

Rockey’s is one of three positions, including mayor, up for reelection this year. However, he is the only one with any competition.

Mayor Kevin Holland and Position No. 3 Councilman Jim Hill have drawn no challengers.

The terms filled by this year’s election this year will expire in May, 2018. Friendswood City Council meets on the first Monday of each month at City Hall, 910 S. Friendswood Dr. beginning at 4:30 p.m.

In Clear Creek ISD, one race will be contested as James Jay Cunningham and Trent Dale Martin compete for the District 5 position, being vacated by Dee Scott. At-Large Trustee Charles Pond and District 4 Trustee Page Rander are unopposed.

Early Voting will be held April 27-May 1 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and May 4 and 5 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Election Day will be Saturday, May 9, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Polling locations will be announced.
