A Town Hall meeting hosted by State Rep. Ed Thompson April 18 will detail how the current state legislative session may impact local residents.
The 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. meeting will take place at the Pearland ISD Educational Support Center, 1928 N. Main St. in Pearland. It is open to all and free to attend.
“I hope this gathering will allow Brazoria County residents to ask questions, exchange information, and receive an update on ongoing issues of the 84th Legislative Session,” Rep. Thompson said in a recent statement.
The 84th Texas Legislature convened at the State Capitol in Austin on Jan.13 and will continue through June 1.
Thompson is currently serving his second term in the Texas House of Representatives, serving District 29, which includes Pearland, Manvel, Alvin, Brookside Village, Iowa Colony, Hillcrest, Rosharon and Liverpool.
Among bills filed by Thompson are HB 1487, authorizing the issuance of revenue bonds to fund a health sciences and classroom building at the Pearland campus of the University of Houston–Clear Lake. HB 2204 relates to state support for assistance with payment of existing debt on certain bonds issued by school districts.
Among bills he has co-authored are HB 1687, which addresses feasibility and desirability of creating and maintaining a coastal barrier system, and HB 576, relating to service retirement benefits payable by the Teacher Retirement System of Texas to certain bus drivers who return to work.
