Friendswood ISD is among several districts benefiting from the Galveston County Fair and Rodeo’s “Education Foundation Night” scheduled Thursday, April 16.
The rodeo is donating $1 of every ticket sold that night to surrounding Education Foundations, including Friendswood, Clear Creek, Dickinson, Galveston, Santa Fe and Texas City. And those who purchase tickets for April 16 have the option of choosing which school district foundation will receive funds from that sale.
Education Foundations are nonprofits that allow employees to pursue projects that school districts themselves aren’t able to fund from their general budgets. Foundations also increase private support for public education and benefits by supporting activities not funded by tax dollars. School districts have purchased things such as iPads and welding equipment with foundation grants.
Funds are awarded through a volunteer Board of Directors committee made up of business, community and educational leaders.
The Friendswood ISD Education Foundation has awarded more than $1 million to teachers and campuses since it was founded in 1999.
The April 16 ticket includes the rodeo and vendors plus the Spazmatics concert.
