Friendswood Junior High Color Guard won their State Championship at the state contest held at Morton Ranch High School in Katy recently.
FJH Guard not only out-scored other junior high teams, but also outscored 22 high school teams in competing in higher classifications. Their score was also the highest score in the Cadet Division in the last two years.
The team has 27 members, the largest in FJH Guard history. Members include Claire Clauson, Sophie Clement, Julia Curry, Pir’Chaih Dickerson, Abigaile Faircloth, Jada Foster, Jalila Foster, Ashley Garcia, Grace Gilbert, Madison Hartung, Amya Henry, Madeline Hill, Julia Kelly, Jessica Kuipers, Ashton Mabe, Bailey McDaniel, Megen Mecham, Madelynn Morse, Jordan Payne, Regan Payne, Grace Sebesta, Karsen Spencer, Zoe Stilwell, Stephanie Troutt, Emily Warren, Destinee Woodburn, Rainey Worrell.
Each girl was awarded a Championship Medal.
The JV Color Guard placed fifth at the State competition.
JV team members include Brianna Bordelon, Kailey Couillard, Hailey Dugan, Samantha Fiehn, Anna Gibson, Hannah Gilbert, Lauren Guess, Jalisa Hernandez, Morgan Higgins, Katie Johnson, Aleah Thomas, and Ava Treon.
“These girls are hard workers, dedicated, and truly love what they do. The team as a whole works so well together, and they are a joy to work with. We couldn’t be more proud!” Assistant Director Donna Barnett said.
“They are already champions in our eyes – what the judges decide is bonus,” Director Ron Barnett said.
Their season began in November with weekly practices, increasing to two practices a week starting in December. At that time they began to design and teach the routine they performed throughout the season.
The season for Junior High is now complete.
High school volunteers who assist the Barnetts include Emilee Clyburn, Meghan Gilbert, Holly McGowan, Melissa Puebla, and Alissa Williams.
In other Color Guard news, High School Varsity Team has their State Championships at Reed Arena, A&M College Station on Saturday, April 11. The Varsity group will also be travelling to Dayton, Ohio for the WGI (Winter Guard International) World Championship April 15-19.
