Approximately 500 Alvin Community College students,local high school students and homeschool students experienced and learned about what the college has to offer during the annual Open House event on April 9.
Court Reporting, Allied Health, Welding, Culinary Arts, student clubs and many more hosted booths and provided information to students considering their options at ACC. Many programs also had demonstrations to show students what they would be doing if they enrolled.
College staff members also spoke with students about the variety of services available at ACC including Financial Aid, student advising and career counseling.
Six, $250 scholarships were awarded to students during the event. The winners were: Guadalupe Aguilera, of Pearland, Shelby Barnett, of Alvin, Llasmin Interiano, of Manvel, Joshua Avina, of Manvel, Saydi Wollney, of Pearland and Alyssa Powledge of Alvin.
There were several activities at the event including jazz music from ACC music students as well as kids games and face painting. Free hot dogs, ice cream, cotton candy and drinks were given out at the event. Students and staff also participated in two hot dog-eating contests.
Five winners also took turns snatching money and prizes in the “prize machine” which was sponsored by Amoco Federal Credit Union.
