Friendswood ISD next fall will begin its second year in a pilot program to develop a new statewide teacher and principal appraisal system.
FISD was selected as one of 72 pilot districts for the professional development system, which launched this past fall.
Education officials have said the new system is a long-overdue update to the state’s current method for grading teachers and principals.
Participation is voluntary with approval from the superintendent and school board.
According to the Texas Education Agency, the new appraisal system will encourage more frequent and timely feedback and will incorporate multiple indicators of success. It has been in development since 2013.
The school board approved participation in the program at its April 13 meeting.
