A reinvestment zone in Pearland’s Kirby Area would create tax abatement opportunities for economic growth, city officials said.
The city held a public hearing April 13 to create a tax reinvestment zone east of Kirby Drive, south of Beltway 8. Council later that evening passed a first reading of the creation of the zone.
A second and final reading is required and will likely be held at the April 27 council meeting.
A reinvestment zone is an economic development tool used to grant tax abatement agreements with prospective companies. The Kirby zone includes about 70 acres.
