FHS Varsity Guard compete in Ohio

Friendswood High School Varsity Color Guard competed in Winter Guard International (WGI) Sport of the Arts competition for the fourth year recently at the University of Dayton Arena in Dayton, Ohio. The group competed in Preliminary contest and advanced to Semi-Finals. Semi-Finals took place at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio the next day.

Members include Emilee Clyburn, Riki Ellard, Makenzie Finch, Meghan Gilbert, Angela Goddard, Bailey Harris, Mackenzie Harris, Nathalie Heimeyer, Courney Huning, Shelby Jones, Holly McGowan, Natalie Pitts, Melissa Puebla, Kellee Ramirez, Shelby Rich, Mitchell Stilwell and Alissa Williams.

Varsity captains include Clyburn, Gilbert and Puebla.

According to the WGI website, WGI Sport of the Arts is the world’s premier organization producing indoor color guard, percussion and wind ensemble competitions. As a non-profit youth organization, WGI serves as the leading governing body of the winter guard activities. It is called the Sport of the Arts because it brings music to life through performance in a competitive format. The organization is in its 38th year in 2015 and continues to grow. The competition in which the FHS Guard competed had more than 12,000 participants.
