A Turner College and Career High School horse judging team claimed the Pearland FFA’s first-ever state title April 25.
Rachel Golla, Jessica Harper, Andrea Skweres and Evann Wehman competed against 72 other teams at the State Horse Judging Career Development Event to win the opportunity to represent Texas in the national competition in October.
The teammates evaluated four horses in eight classes, ranking them depending on criteria such as overall appearance, breed characteristics and athletic ability.
In addition, students answered a series of questions after evaluating the horses, with their rankings compared to the official rankings established by contest sponsors.
The faculty sponsor is TCCHS veterinary science teacher Jessica Koetting.
