Elizabeth Rogers, Tessa Williams, Kaaylah Arreola, Noemi Pulido, Hayden Weaver, and Rose Reed were six Rodeo Palms Junior High students that competed at the Regional Junior Visual Art Scholastic Event (VASE) held Saturday, April 18.
The Texas Art Education Association sponsors the Junior Visual Art Scholastic Event where students are provided the opportunity to bring artwork created in their art classes to their regional event. The jurors look for originality of concept, technical expertise, understanding of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), and the interpretation of the student’s stated intent. The jurors evaluate the art based on a scale from 1-4, with four being the highest.
Elizabeth Rogers received a perfect score for her mixed media piece titled, “Gears and Lungs.” Tessa Williams received a four and missed a perfect score by one point for her pencil drawing. Kaaylah Arreola, Noemi Puildo, and Hayden Weaver all received a four Superior rating and Rose Reed received a three Excellent score.
“This is a spectacular achievement for the students and their teacher,” said Shawn Williams, principal at Rodeo Palms Junior High. “These students put in a lot of time and effort to prepare for this competition.”
