More than 100 veterans from World War II and forward are expected to attend the city’s annual Memorial Day celebration on Monday, May 25.
“We do a lot of great things in this city,” City Councilman Billy Enochs said, “but one of the most special things we do is our Memorial Day celebration. It’s still relatively new, but it’s starting to be quite a tradition and it keeps getting larger and larger.”
The event is set for 10 a.m. at the Veteran’s Memorial located adjacent to City Hall, 910 S. Friendswood Dr. Built using donations, the memorial was dedicated on Memorial Day in 2010.
City Manager Roger Roecker said the event will include patriotic songs and a special guest speaker.
“This has become a great event and it’s also become a tradition for all the veterans who attend and come together for a group photo at the close of the ceremony,” he said.
