City: Parks set for completion soon

In News by Reporter News

If all goes according to plan, six fields at a new sports complex on Hughes Ranch Road will be ready for play this fall.

Phase 1 of the Hickory Slough Sportsplex, located north of FM 518 on Hughes Ranch, is expected to be open by summer’s end, city officials recently announced.

Three of the six sports fields will be lighted, and the park will include a shaded pavilion, concession and restroom facilities.

The complex is a result of the 2005 Master Parks Plan, which among other things identified a need for more sports facilities within the city. It is also a project included in the city’s 2007 bond package.

Another set of fields is under construction on Shadow Creek Ranch Parkway, west of Kingsley. The Shadow Creek Sports Park is expected to be “substantially complete” by the end of summer, although the delayed bond project had been reduced in scope due to bidding and budgeting issues.

Once open, city officials said user agreements with area sports groups will be established. The process will ensure city resources accommodate the largest number of residents.
