Early voting under way for council seat

In News by Reporter News

The May election isn’t quite over for Pearland, which still has a city council race left for voters to decide on Saturday, June 13.

Headed to a runoff for City Council Position No. 2 are attorney and city Planning and Zoning Commissioner Derrick Reed and Quentin Wiltz, a contracts and development director.

Both candidates have a strong history of community leadership and holding volunteer positions in the Pearland community.

The run off is required because none of the candidates earned a majority vote in the May election: Reed garnered 1,286 votes, or 37 percent, and Wiltz received 1,069, or nearly 31 percent.

The winner will replace Councilman Scott Sherman, who is retiring due to term limits.

Early voting began June 1, and continues from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday, June 5, and with extended hours from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, June 6, Monday, June 8 and Tuesday, June 9. Early voting is available at three locations within the city – the same early voting locations used in the May 9 election. They are:

– Tom Reid Library, 3522 Liberty Dr.
– Westside Event Center, 2150 Countryplace Parkway
– Westside Library, 2803 Business Center Dr. No. 101

On runoff election day, the city will open the same voting centers as on the May 9 election except for the Silverlake Recreation location, which cannot be used because it is outside city limits. Runoff election day voting centers are:

– Drainage District No. 4 Building, 4813 W. Broadway
– Turner College and Career High, 4717 Bailey Road
– Westside Event Center, 2150 Countryplace Parkway
– Tom Reid Library, 3522 Liberty
– Fellowship Bible Church, 1720 E. Broadway
– Westside Library, 2803 Business Center Dr. No. 101
