The Friendswood school district continues to work on its priorities for next year as well as the budget process.
As with other Texas school districts, mapping out a budget based on anticipated revenues has been a moving target as the Texas legislature hammered out its funding plan for public schools.
Friendswood ISD’s fiscal year ends Aug. 31. Among priorities listed for the coming year are a new teacher salary schedule designed to be competitive with other districts, and returning Bales Intermediate to an independent campus. The district is also integrating Chromebook technology in its classrooms.
The budget and tax rate are adopted in August after a public hearing.
More than 80 percent of expenditures are payroll costs, which includes salaries for teachers, professional and support staff, substitutes and employee benefits.
The next meeting of the Friendswood ISD Board is scheduled Monday, June 15, at 5:45 p.m. at the FISD Administration Building.
Trustees meet in the district’s Administration Building, 302 Laurel Dr. A time for public comments is scheduled for each meeting. Agendas are posted at www.boarddocs.com at least 72 hours in advance of meetings.
