City Council on June 1 approved two appointments to the city’s Animal Shelter Advisory Committee.
Friendswood resident Amy Castro will replace member Tina Wood, who resigned.
Dr. Donna Coleman of the Friendswood Animal Clinic replaces Dr. Alexander Young, who also resigned. Coleman’s appointment to the committee will fulfill the requirement of a “licensed veterinarian” on the committee, according to the city.
Castro’s appointment to the committee will fulfill the extra position on the committee that is dedicated to a representative of the Animal Control volunteers.
The city’s animal shelter and the nonprofit Friendswood Animal Control parted ways earlier this year over disagreements over new shelter policies put in place, particularly the length of time animals could remain in the shelter.
Meanwhile, FAA continues to operate independently of the city and the shelter, providing adoptions, medical care and spay-neuter assistance.
