City: Fireworks ban will be actively enforced

In News by Reporter News

Fire officials have issued a reminder that fireworks are not permitted within the City of Pearland, and violations can lead to hefty fines.

The Fire Marshal and Police Department will be actively enforcing this ordinance, officials have warned, and those who ignore it face a Class C misdemeanor, a charge that carries a fine of up to $2,000 per violation and may also result in the confiscation and subsequent destruction of illegal fireworks found within the city.

A professional fireworks show is available free to the public Saturday during the city’s Celebration of Freedom event at the Pearland High stadium. Activities begin at 6 p.m., with fireworks at about 9 p.m. Parking is available at Pearland High or at Pearland Junior High, 4719 Bailey Road, with free shuttles running to and from the event.

Call 281-997-4650 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday with fireworks-related questions.
