Public restrooms are again open at the Friendswood Library, which has been undergoing a 6,000-square-foot expansion through voter-approved bond funding.
Though restrooms are again in working order, patrons may now find parking areas a bit darker. Two of the outside parking lot lights have been removed to make room for construction, city officials said.
The $2.23 million expansion is expected to be complete by early 2016. The well used facility, 416 Morningside, was originally an office building when it was converted to the city library in 1994.
Work will include new meeting areas, expanded children and teen areas, expanded computer capacity areas and additional parking.
The library also is installing personalized brick pavers in two areas. The 4-by-8-inch pavers include a message with up to three lines of laser-engraved text, and are available a $100 donation each. The cost of the pavers is tax deductible, and all proceeds go to the public library.
