A Pearland Sunday school volunteer accused of molesting a teenager is free on bond with a hearing date next month.
According to reports, Brazoria County Grand Jury this month indicted John Dixon Meharg, 43, who is charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child. The alleged incidents involved a 13-year-old member of Sagemont Church where Meharg, who has no criminal history, had been one of several hundred volunteers. The church lies just south off the Sam Houston Tollway near Hughes Road.
Meharg was booked June 15 and posted a $50,000 bond on June 18, county records show. The incidents allegedly took place on Jan. 24 (aggravated sexual assault) and in June 2014 (indecency) at Meharg’s apartment on Barry Rose Road.
A pre-trial hearing is scheduled July 25, with a trial date tentatively set for November 9 in 300th District Court.
