Elizabeth Louisa (“Betty”) Burlingame, 95, of Friendswood, Texas, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2015.  She was born April 10, 1920 to Fred K. Holtam and Edith Holtam in Cirencester, Gloucestershire, England.
Elizabeth was raised in Cirencester and attended school until she was 14 years old, after which she became a bookkeeper for Boulton’s Department Store and later for the firm of Williams & Ford, an electrical supplier. She remained in Cirencester, where she met her future husband, Ivan Burlingame, an American WWII Army soldier stationed at a nearby hospital evacuation and receiving center. Betty and Ivan were married in Cirencester on May 27, 1947. They spent the first part of their married life in Berlin, Germany, during the Berlin Blockade. They then moved to Fort Collins, Colorado, and Chicago, Illinois, before settling in northern Minnesota upon Ivan’s retirement from the Army.
They lived in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, for 50 years. Betty was a loving wife and mother, raised two children, and was an excellent homemaker. Additionally, she was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church, volunteered with the Itasca County Nursing Home and the local food pantry, and was an active member of the English War Brides of Grand Rapids. After her husband’s death, she moved to Friendswood, Texas, in 2005 to be near her daughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Frederick J. Holtam and William C. Holtam, and infant son, Christopher David Burlingame.
Betty is survived by her daughter Marcia B. Oliver (and husband Gregory); son C. Mark Burlingame (and wife Barbara); grandchildren Jacob Burlingame (and wife Melissa), Kristin Nordin (and husband Adam), Wade Oliver (and wife Allison), and Amy Stone (and husband Samuel); great grandchildren, Eleanor Burlingame, Davis Oliver, and Avery Oliver; and many other relatives and cherished friends.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 12, 2015, at 3:00 P.M. at St. Christopher Episcopal Church, 2508 St. Christopher Road, League City, Texas 77573 with The Rev. Viktoria Gotting officiating.
Another memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2015, at 3:00 P.M. at Christ Episcopal Church, 520 N. Pokegama Ave., Grand Rapids, Minnesota 55744 with The Rev. Ken Toven officiating.  Rowe Funeral Home, 510 N.W. 1st Ave., Grand Rapids, Minnesota 55744, (218) 326-6505, will be handling the arrangements.
