School lunch prices increase

In News by Reporter News

Due to a price increase required by the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010, Alvin ISD will increase the cost of lunches for the 2015-16 school year. Elementary lunches will increase from $2.20 to $2.25, while secondary lunches will increase to $2.75 from $2.50.

The Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010 provides each school district across the U.S. a Price Lunch Equity tool to determine meal prices. This tool was implemented to ensure funding for students that qualify for subsidized meals is allocated properly.

Child Nutrition Director Jennifer Basich said, “While we wish we did not have to increase meal prices, the meals we serve pack a lot of nutrition. It’s a great investment in your child’s nutritional needs.”
